QUiXiT FAQ #em411/espernet Q. What's a Quixit? A. It's a gathering of electronic musicians who make a song in a short amount of time (hence the name). It's based off the mixits, which is a long em411.com tradition (http://mixit.panicnow.net). Mixits are 30 days, Quixits are usually about an hour to two hours. Q. Do I need to be in the #em411 chatroom to participate? Technically, no, but it doesn't make much sense not to be. We make the music and share with one another, hopefully offering up constructive ideas and comments on the songs themselves. Q. How do I login to the #em411 chatroom? A. You need an IRC client, and you need to connect to the EsperNet IRC server. Once you've loaded your IRC client, type /server irc.esper.net and when you're connected, type /join #em411 You can change your nick with /nick username Q. Should I use my em411 username? A. It's prefered, this way people know who their talking to. Plus we can look at your emID and check out your cool music ;) Q. What's the address for the Quixit site then?? A. Come to #em411 and we'll tell you Q. Dow do I register a username on the Quixit site? A. Use the login function in the menubar. Enter a username and password, and the username will be created if it does not already exist Q. What are the rules for Quixiting? A. To only use the provided samples, and to make your song in the alloted time period. We rarely have themes, or particular rulesets, thought that is always an option. Q. How do I submit a sample/song for use in this quixit? A. There will be a link on the current Quixit's page to the upload form. Q. What time do the Quixits usually start? A. This is a very difficult question to answer. Quixits start when a few people decide they want to. Someone mentions it, we start the sample upload phase, and +blog it on em411.com. Q. Where are the quixit blogs? A. http://www.google.com/custom?q=quixit&sitesearch=www.em411.com Q. How will I know if there's a Quixit starting? A. We (usually) always +blog on em411.com, and give details there. Your best bet is to idle in #em411 and set your client's text-alert to notify on topic change (usually a default) or the word "quixit." Q. Why does clarkq always win even though he's in the wrong time zone? Q. Update: Why does clarkq always win even though he doesn't hang out and Quixit anymore. A. No fucking idea. Currently we're trying to resolve the issue. Q. Why's the Quixit Website secure? A. Because that's how the host was setup before we came crashing in on it. Q. Will there ever be a ranking system? A. No. But we are considering adding "marks" to songs, in order to give an objectified idea of the impression a song gives. For example, a <3 mark, a "funk" mark, a "poop" mark, etc. Yet, Quixit songs are _UNRATED_, and this system would only serve to help give feedback. everamzah@gmail.com
